Trips

Project Tomato

Project Tomato was the original Environmental Leaders trip and it immerses you into local food systems. You'll camp on farmland, spend time with farmers in their fields, and participate in our annual tomato harvest. Then you'll cook those tomatoes into pizza sauce at one of the dining hall's central kitchens, sauce that will top pizzas and be served in the residence halls.

The Pedal Project

Eugene and the Willammette Valley boasts some of the best biking and bike infrastructure in the country. On this trip, you'll learn basic bike maintenance skills and pedal yourself out on a bike camping adventure. Your self-powered camping trip will take you to visit local bike shops, independent bike manufactures, and cycling infrastructuralists. Along the way, you'll learn valuable safety and community-building skills.

H2Oregon

Hike the flow of Eugene's drinking water, tracing the water from source to tap. You'll spend three days backpacking along the upper McKenzie River Trail (or "the MRT," as the locals call it) from Clear Lake down. The group will tour the Hayden Bridge Water Treatment plant and municipal waste-water treatment facilities and end up at a poplar tree plantation watered and fertilized by Eugene's wastewater. Throughout the trip, you'll learn about watershed ecology and what's being done to keep our water clean.

Coast Conscious

Taking part in the Coast Conscious trip means spending four days along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, where the trees practically crash into the water. The trip starts off in Newport, examining the unique coast environment in Oregon. As you make your way south, you'll visit the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology, examining the possibilities of wave energy, and spend plenty of time around beach bonfires and on coastal hiking trails. The trip spends two nights camping and one night in a dorm-style residence.
