Wednesday, August 12th 8:00 am – 7:00 pm
The Utilities & Energy Department (U&E) will commission a new diesel generator and test new controls on the institution’s existing diesel generators. Due to the complexity of the commissioning and testing plan, we cannot provide an hour-by-hour testing schedule. Therefore, campus users should expect and prepare for brief power outages (up to 10 seconds in duration) at any time between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Thursday, August 13th from 8:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Utilities & Energy will continue commissioning and testing. We will also conduct our annual Island Mode testing. Campus users should expect and prepare for brief power outages (up to 10 seconds in duration) at any time between 8:00 am – 7:00 pm.
Please review the Technology Impacts page to learn more about this planned outage and what to do to minimize impacts to your computers, copiers, etc.
No electrical testing will occur between 7:00 pm on Wednesday, August 12 and 8:00 am on Thursday, August 13th, 2026.
A message will be sent to all campus users via UO Alerts when testing is complete and normal power operations resume on Thursday, August 13th.
The new diesel generator adds 3.3 megawatts of on-site emergency back-up power to our existing emergency back-up generation system. The new controls will smooth the transition into and out of “island mode.” Island mode is a valuable resiliency/reliability feature that allows U&E to temporarily sever its connection to the local and regional power grid and provide all power required by campus buildings from our on-site generation.
