H2Oregon #1

Students will become acquainted with the flow of Eugene’s drinking water – from the headwaters of the beautiful McKenzie River to a poplar plantation watered and fertilized by Eugene’s wastewater. Along the way they will learn about watershed ecology, environmental implications of water use and abuse, and what’s being done to keep our drinking water supplies safe and clean. The first three days of the trip will be spent backpacking the McKenzie River National Recreation Trail from Clear Lake. The group will tour the Carmen-Smith Hydroelectric Project and our municipal waste-water treatment facility.
